Session Notes - December 23, 2007 Session
This session marked the twenty-first of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
We'd like to thank club members Richard Spence and Ed Saunders for contributing to the goodie table this week.
Margaret Miller comprised our recreational division again this week. Margaret played against a rotation of several different tournament division players during the course of the session.
The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 20 games in which we scored 7,852 points for a 392.6 point-per-game average. Of the 32 recorded bingos we played, three were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 476 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 360 points by Ed Saunders
- High Loss - 399 points by Ed Saunders (Opponent at 427)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.0000 bingos per game

- Recreational Highlights Janis Clem and Ed Saunders combined on a 685 point game in the rec division this week. Ed punctuated the assault with a 203 point triple-triple of JACINThS.
- Well. . . .It DID look kinda funky. . . . Part of the game is knowing what is NOT a word. Richard Spence and Ed Saunders teamed up for three phoney bingos in their first game of the session. Ed got away with viperoid* and opsonise* while Richard cashed in with amounter*. Only Richard's nonbingo hinty* failed to remain on the board. Special challenge. . . .both opsonise* and amounter* have valid anagrams, each of which would have been playable on this board. Can you find them? (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
- Weekly Anagram Challenge Ed Saunders gives us our challenge again this week. From a rack of AEINRST (which can form 9 different 7-letter and 69 different 8-letter bingos), Ed found an open "L" and played the bingo ENTRAILS, one of FIVE eight-letter bingos in that group. Can you come up with the other four? (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first contest was The "OUT" Of Options Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "U, and "T" in any order OTHER than "OUT" somewhere within it. Richard Spence provided the only qualifying entry with amounter* for 62 points. That "amounted" to a $3.00 payoff for Richard this week.
The second was the Mix"ING" Up The End"ING" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "I", "N", and "G" in any order OTHER than "ING" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders wins $3.00 in this one with RESIGNER for 72 pts.
Ed also picked up the $2.80 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot by hooking the "U" in AQUIVER on the end of FUG to make FUGU and scoring 114 points in the process.
Ed's winnings are donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $189.97 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (January 6, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Should Auld Acquaintance Contest - In honor
of the New Year, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player
who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or
designation for, someone with whom you might be acquainted (e.g. TEAMMATE,
FRIENDS, FIREMAN, PARAMOUR, EDUCATOR, EREMITE, BOGEYMAN, FANTASY, AVIATRIX,
YEGGMEN, etc.).
• The "Q" Contest - A quarter of
dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that contains the letter "Q"
somewhere within it. (e.g. QINDARKA, MBAQANGA, PERIQUES, QUANGOS, OBSEQUY,
LOQUATS, QIVIUTS, QUIDNUNC, MASQUERS, CAZIQUE, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.43
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $13.64 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.60 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
