Session Notes - January 27, 2008 Session

This session marked the twenty-fifth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

With a few of our club members apparently still fried from the first of the Teeny Tiny Tournaments on Saturday, only three players showed up for the tournament division on Sunday. Elinor Horner came to the rescue and filled out the foursome for the day. Elinor played four games against the tournament division players and held her own throughout the day. All of her games were competitive.

The goodie table held some leftovers from the Saturday spread and nobody starved during the shorter-than-usual session.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,711 points for a 371.1 point-per-game average. Of the 12 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests and one repeat contest this week.

The first contest was The "V" Is For Victory Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "V" somewhere within it. With $2.25 up for grabs, Bob Knouse came up with VENT for 14, Ed Saunders was able to best that with WAVY for 21, but Carol Knouse wins the money with VET for 24 points

The second contest was A Word To The "Y"s Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Y" somewhere within it. Ed Was able to show off his BODY for 27 pts, Bob came back with WEEDY for 28, but Carol made sure the AYES had it with 36 points on the play. Carol picks up another $2.25 to run her total for the week to $4.50.

The repeat contest was the "ABLE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letterS "A", "B", "L", and "E", in any order somewhere within it. Once again, no one was ABLE to come up with such a word this week so we'll run it again next time with $3.00 awaiting the eventual winner.

Ed Saunders picked off a couple of the Progressive Jackpots this week, scoring 111 on a double-double of RICHENS to win the 100+Point Play and the $1.68 that was in the pot. Ed also picks up the $8.59 for the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot with a 63 point play of REWRITING through the existing phony "EW". It pays to see how the opponent's play changes the board situation.

Ed's $10.27 winnings are donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on either of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $222.55 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (February 3, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
The Electric Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains either the letters "A" and "C" or the letters "D" and "C" (AC/DC) in either order anywhere within it (e.g. CZAREVNA, RATICIDE, ACAJOUS, DRACHMS, CECROPIA, AQUEDUCT, MAJOLICA, ASCIDIUM, etc.).
