Session Notes - December 23, 2007 Session
This session was dedicated to the memory of Robert Whitcomb.
This session marked the twentieth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
Sandra Masel joined us again this week. The affable Aussie will be heading back to Australia this week and we will miss having her around.
We'd like to thank club members Monique Kornell, Margaret Miller, and Ed Saunders for contributing to the goodie table this week. A surprise, and welcome, contribution came from Joni and Maggie Perry. Joni brought in a plate of her mom's Christmas cookies for the group even though she wasn't playing this week. Thanks to all.
Margaret Miller comprised our recreational division this week. Margaret played against several different tournament division players and managed to pull off an unassisted triple-triple play (TRASHING through the "H" for 149 points) in her game against Ed Saunders
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 22 games in which we scored 8,321 points for a 378.2273 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, two were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 500 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 343 points by Richard Spence
- High Loss - 375 points by Judy Carlock(Opponent at 500)

- Margaret Miller's Recreational Triple-Triple The first triple-triple recorded by one of our recreational players was played this week by Margaret Miller in a game against Ed Saunders. Ed left an "H" in the top line and Margaret played TRASHING through it for a triple-triple and 149 points. Way to go, Margaret!
- Weekly Anagram Challenge Ed Saunders gives us our challenge this week. Ed played the bingo GRATINS, one of FOUR seven-letter bingos on that rack. Can you come up with the other three? (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
Our contests this week were in memory of Robert Whitcomb.
The first contest was The "RW" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "R" and "W" in any order somewhere within it. We had three valid entries for this contest. Monique Kornell played WIVERN for 32 pts. Ed Saunders submitted FORESAW for 88 pts. Richard Spence claims the $3.75 prize, though, with WAVERING for 98 pts.
The second was the "Final Play" Contest for the highest scoring final play of a game. We had two out play bingos. Ed Saunders played ENTOILED and picked up 10 points from the opponent's rack for 70 points total. Richard totaled 85 points for his out play bingo of TRIAZINE plus 14 points from his opponent's rack. The "Final Play" wins $3.75 for Richard.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $181.17 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (December 30, 2007) shall feature the following contests:
• "OUT" Of Options Contest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that contains the letters "O", "U",
and "T" in any order OTHER than "OUT"
somewhere within it (e.g. ULTERIOR, CORNUTOS, TROILUS, PITIOUS, TINAMOUS,
OPULENT, SAUTOIRE, CLOTURES, TUXEDOS, etc.). Any entry that has the word
"OUT" in it will be thrown "OUT" of the contest.
• Mix"ING" Up The End"ING" Contest
- A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in
the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "I', "N",
and "G" in any order OTHER than "ING"
somewhere within it. (e.g. PIGSNEY, GANGLION, IGNIFIED, FIGMENTS, GNOMISTS,
COREIGNS, GAHNITE, UMANGITE, GINKGOES, OUTGRIN, GENOISE, WIDGEONS, etc.).
Any entry with "ING" in that order will be missING out on the
prize.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.05 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $12.89 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $4.85 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
