Session Notes - August 19, 2007 Session

The Northwest Club will continue to meet at the Highlands Community Clubhouse through September 2nd.

This session marked the third of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 24 games in which we scored 9,188 points for a 382.83 point-per-game average. Of the 30 recorded bingos we played, one was a phony that went unchallenged.

Our recreational division included four players this week with Dee Keys, Elinor Horner, Isabel Keranen and Anita Almond stopping in. The group played three games at one board and put together four bingos (see "Bingos" list below) this session.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first was the Happy Birthday!!!!! Contest honoring Judy Carlock's mmmmpppphhhth birthday on August 21st for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either "J" or "C". Ed Saunders played CASSINO for 84 pts, but it just wasn't in the cards for Ed as Richard Spence hooked his bingo, BLAZERS, on the back end of JUG, forming JUGA, scoring 102 pts and sending him home with the $4.50 prize.

The second was the "Beginnings" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with one of the five prefixes BE, DE, IN, RE, or UN. It was interesting to note that of the eight different bingos played that began with either BE or RE, only two qualified as prefixes. Richard Spence submitted RETURNED for 61 points but Karen Lundeen is rewarded for her 82 pt play of REWARDED with the $4.50 prize.

Richard Spence captured the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot with the above mentioned play of BLAZERS/JUGA for 102 pts and the $2.24 Jackpot.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $20.24 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (August 26) shall feature the following contests:
Full Steam Ahead! Contest - On August 26, 1791, John Fitch was granted a United States patent for the Steamboat. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to the means by which people travel (e.g. WALKING, HORSECAR, BICYCLE, AIRPLANE, RAILROAD, AUTOBUS, MONORAIL, TAXICAB, JITNEYS, DOGSLED, CARRIAGE, STEAMER, etc.) .
Not Your us"UAL" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the triplet U-A-L in any order somewhere within it. To qualify for this contest, the letters U, A, and L must be consecutive in some order. (e.g. QUALIFY, UNUSUAL, SPATULA, RETINULA, ALUMINUM, CALUMNY MAULING, CAULDRON, ELUATES, VALUATE, UMLAUTS, LAUWINE, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.24 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
