This session marked the twenty-third of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
We enjoyed the company and strong play of Harriet Strasberg, visiting this week from Roseville, Minnesota and hope she includes us in future travel plans.
We'd like to thank club members Monique Kornell, Richard Spence, and Ed Saunders for contributing to the goodie table this week. Monique brought in some fudge, Richard brought a plate of cookies his father made (I was too slow. . . .I only got one of 'em) and Ed put out cheese & crackers, pretzels, and rice snacks to counterbalance all the sugar on the table.
Margaret Miller and Elinor Horner comprised our recreational division this week.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 24 games in which we scored 9,726 points for a 405.25 point-per-game average. Of the 36 recorded bingos we played, only one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first contest was The "UN" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "UN", in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders played three short "UN" words, UN, GUN, and PUN. Surprisingly, there were no other entries so Ed picks up $3.00 for the club kitty with his 13 point play of UN.
The second contest was the "ABLE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letterS "A", "B", "L", and "E", in any order somewhere within it. No one was ABLE to come up with such a word this week so we'll run it again next time with $3.00 awaiting the eventual winner.
The 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot fell to two players this week. Monique Kornell's dynamite play of DYNAMICS netted her 101 points and part of the $1.31 pot. Ed Saunders rained on her parade though, with his play of DRIZZLE for 102 points. Ed gets the extra penny by virtue of having the higher scoring play.
Ed's winnings are donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $198.78 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (January 20, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• The High-Powered Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that contains one or more of the letters "Q", "Z",
"J", "X", or "K" somewhere within it (e.g.
QUIXOTRY, JAROVIZE, KYANIZED, BEZIQUE, MBAQANGA, XEROTIC, ZASTRUGA, JABIRUS,
BOOJUMS, etc.).
• The Low-Powered Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word having no letters worth more than one point anywhere within
it. Any blanks used must be designated as a letter worth one point. (e.g.

NEROLIS, ENTERONS, AEOLIAN, etc.)
• REPEAT - The "ABLE" Contest - $3.00
shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of

and "E" in any order somewhere within it. (e.g. BLOVIATE, ARBELAST,
LABIATED, EDUCABLE, ABLEGATE, BEADLES, LAMBASTE, BARNACLE, ALBUMEN, EMBLAZON,
