Session Notes - August 12, 2007 Session

The Northwest Club will continue to meet at the Highlands Community Clubhouse through August 26th.

This session marked the second of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

The tournament rules division was joined by 6 players who played 24 games in which we scored 9,164 points for a 381.83 point-per-game average. Of the 33 recorded bingos we played, two were phonies that went unchallenged.

Dee Keys and Joni Perry, both residents of the Highlands community, dropped in and played a couple of games in the recreational division. We're expecting at least four recreational players next week and hoping for more.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

This was our first week of running regular weekly contests and we featured two.

The first was the Did You Hear About This? Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to sound. Michael Rhodes submitted "Edison found that his VOICE was heard clearly on his first recording." 30 pts, but Ed Saunders set the tone for this contest with "His keen musical ear recognized the tone immediately as the MEDIANT of the scale being played." 66 pts. Ed cashes in to the tune of $4.50.

The second was the Mind Your "Qs" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Q" somewhere within it. Richard Spence found QIS with the "Q" both ways on a triple letter score for 66 pts and the $4.50 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $1.12 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $9.00 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (August 19) shall feature the following contests:
Happy Birthday!!!!! Contest - Judy Carlock is going to be mmmmpppphhh!! years old on August the 21st. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "J" or "C". . . .(e.g. JUDICIAL, CONCERNS, JUDOKAS, CATERAN, JUNGLIER, COWRITE, JIPIJAPA, CERULEAN, etc.) .
"Beginnings" Contest -One of the best ways to build bingos is by using a common prefix. A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with one of the five prefixes BE, DE, IN, RE, or UN. (e.g. BEDAUBED, DETRAINS, INCOMING, RELOCATE, UNWANTED, BESTOWS, DEFROST, INSIDER, RETHINK, UNTAKEN, etc.). The combos must be used as a prefix to qualify for the prize.
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
