Session Notes - February 10, 2008 Session

IMPORTANT!!!!! IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE!!!!! IMPORTANT!!!!!

THE NORTHWEST SCRABBLE CLUB WILL NOT MEET ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH (due to the participation of the Director in the Phoenix 2008 Scrabble Tournament in Phoenix). THE CLUB WILL RESUME ITS NORMAL SUNDAY SCHEDULE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH.

This session marked the twenty-seventh of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

We welcomed newcomer Wil Eastland to the fold. Wil got in a number of games with Elinor Horner and got to experience a little bit of the tournament style as Richard Spence joined the recreational crew for a game.

The tournament rules division was joined by 3 players who played 16 games in which we scored 6,206 points for a 387.875 point-per-game average. Of the 27 recorded bingos we played, three were phoneys that went unchallenged.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests and one repeat contest this week.

The first contest was The "I"s Have It Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains two or more "I"s somewhere within it. Ed Saunders went back to his ORIGINS for this one, scoring 72 points on the play to snap up $2.25 for the club kitty.

The second contest was The "NO"s Have It Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "NO" , in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders beat his TIMPANO (a kettledrum) loudly (for 78 pts) and didn't miss a beat as he picked up another $2.25 for the club kitty.

The repeat contest was the "ABLE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "A", "B", "L", and "E", in any order somewhere within it. After running for several weeks, the $3.00 prize for this contest was no longer hidable, and Ed Saunders moved it into another section of the club kitty with his 82 point opening play of HIDABLE.

Two of the Progressive Jackpots fell this week. Ed Saunders found EXPIATED through an open "P" and racked up 102 points and $1.31 in the 100+ Point Play Progressive Jackpot. Meanwhile, Richard Spence took advantage of an open "DE" on the board and hooked a caboose on it, playing DETRAINED for 72 points and the $1.31 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot.

Ed's $8.81 winnings are donated back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on either of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $238.67 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
