Session Notes - September 9, 2007 Session

The Northwest Club will continue to meet at the Highlands Community Clubhouse through September 23rd.

This session marked the sixth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 8 games in which we scored 3,235 points for a 404.375 point-per-game average. Of the 15 recorded bingos we played, none were phonies that went unchallenged.

Our recreational division included two players this week with Elinor Horner and Isabel Keranen getting together for a couple of leisurely games. Isabel came up with one bingo in a game with Ed Saunders before Elinor arrived.

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first regular contest was the Happy Birthday!!!!! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either "M" or "L". Ed Saunders wins this with a 75 pt play of MAGNETO.

The second was the Playing Hooky Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains at least two hook letters and forms at least three new words. Ed Saunders hooked HIPBONE under QI to form HIPBONE/QI/TIP for 96 pts and the win.

Ed also put together a 599 point game to claim the $3.92 Club # 565 Progressive Jackpot for any game of 565 points or higher.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $37.66 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (September 16, 2007) shall feature the following contests:
• Amos Alonzo Stagg Contest - On September 16, 1960, legendary college football coach Amos Alonzo Stagg announced his retirement after 71 years on the field. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to college sports. (e.g. CHEERLED, MASCOTS, FUMBLED, STADIUM, SCHOOLS, HALFBACK, ROOTING, FOOTBALL, ELIGIBLE, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you must write a sentence connecting your word to college sports in some manner. Make the connection, and we'll call a timeout to give you your prize.
•In or Out Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either IN or OUT.
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.92 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.92 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
