Session Notes - December 9, 2007 Session

This session marked the eighteenth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

We'd like to thank Richard Spence and Ed Saunders for this week's goodies. Richard contributed a bag of chips and Ed set out a veggie tray for the group.

Our recreational division had three players this week. Margaret Miller and Elinor Horner came early and Brenda Beeley stopped by a bit later in the session.

The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 10 games in which we scored 3,994 points for a 399.4 point-per-game average. Of the 17 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.

Richard Spence had a strong session, moving into first place on the lists for club ranking, win/loss %, and average points per game as well as recording a 528 game and a 140 point play.

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week.

The first regular contest was the "IC" A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "IC" somewhere within it. Richard Spence spewed some acid with his 30 point BORIC, but Ed Saunders blistered the field with a 76 point bingo of VESICATE to pick up the $1.50 prize for the club kitty.

The second was the Call The "MP"s Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "MP" somewhere within it. Ed Saunders thought he made the right call when he played UMPED for 24 points, but Richard Spence jumped all over that with a 38 point play of TAJ/JUMPED and hops off with the $1.50 payoff

Richard Spence had a rack of AACEIG? when Ed bingoed with REFUTING, leaving the "R" in position 1D. It didn't take Richard long to drive off with the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot in the CArRIAGE (140 points) he played through the open "R". Richard picks up $4.29 for the play.

No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $167.67 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (December 16, 2007) shall feature the following contests:
The Sump'n For The Tummy Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of a food eaten by people somewhere in the world. (e.g. VINDALOO, SOUVLAKI, TAPIOCA, TZIMMES, ETOUFFEE, GAZPACHO, BAKLAWA, SPAETZLE, ZWIEBACK, KOHLRABI, GRUYERE, LEKVARS, etc.).
The IN Or OUT Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains either of the words "IN" or "OUT" somewhere within it. (e.g. INCONNU, BOUTONS, MINIMAX, KNOUTING, WARFARIN, DEVOUTLY, QINDARKA, DIMOUTS, TAMARIND, AGOUTIS, RENDZINA, MAHOUTS, etc.).
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $11.21 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $3.17 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
