Session Notes - April 6, 2008 Session
This session marked the thirty-second of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
The goodies table included cookies, nuts, raisins, and chips today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 8 games in which we scored 3,117 points for a 389.625 point-per-game average. Of the 12 recorded bingos we played, two were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 540 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 398 points by Janis Clem
- High Loss - 354 points by Ed Saunders (Opponent at 432)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.0000 bingos per game

- Weekly Anagram Challenge Janis Clem gives us our challenge this week. With two separate racks of DEERSST, Janis played the bingos DESERTS and TRESSED, two of the THREE bingos in that rack. Can you come up with third? (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first contest was The Noshing Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, some sort of snack food. Ed Saunders picks up the $1.50 prize with a 52 pt play that was just the WURST play of the night.
The second contest was The "X" Marks The Pot Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that begins with contains the letter "X" somewhere within it. Janis Clem hooked the "X" in OXIDE onto an existing EAU for a TWS and 82 big points, but Ed Saunders snuck the phony axhandle* past her for 98 points and another $1.50 prize.
Ed's $3.00 winnings for the week will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $286.96 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (April 20, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• The Fabrics Of Our Lives Contest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of
within it, a fabric of some kind. (e.g. GALATEA, FUSTIAN, DORNOCKS, SPANDEX,
SHALLOON, TORCHON, WOOLFELL, ETAMINES, DUNGAREE, FOULARD, etc.).
• "IC" A Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that contains the letter couplet "IC", in that
order, somewhere within it. (e.g. XEROTIC, PICACHO, ICEBLINK, STOICAL, KINESICS,
ZEBRAIC, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.74
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.61 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $1.86 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.61 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
