IMPORTANT!!!!! IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE!!!!! IMPORTANT!!!!!
THE NORTHWEST SCRABBLE CLUB WILL NOT MEET ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH (due to the participation of the Director in the Phoenix 2008 Scrabble Tournament in Phoenix). THE CLUB WILL PLAY AS USUAL ON FEBRUARY 10TH AND RESUME ITS NORMAL SUNDAY SCHEDULE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH.
This session marked the twenty-sixth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
Once again, recreational player Elinor Horner helped out by evening up the numbers until Robert Readle showed up.
The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 12 games in which we scored 4,225 points for a 352.0833 point-per-game average. Of the 11 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
Some interesting bingos:
We featured two regular contests and one repeat contest this week.
The first contest was The Electric Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "A" and "C" or the letters "D" and "C" (AC/DC) somewhere within it. Bob Readle managed 5 points with his play of CAT, Bob Knouse had a little CIDER for 16, but Ed Saunders rode the coattails of his bingo COATTAIL to 72 pts and the $3.00 prize.
The second contest was the "EAU" What A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "E", "A, and "U", in any order, somewhere within it. Ed couldn't find PEANUTS but managed to sneak untapes* past his opponent to take the money ($3.00) in this contest as well.
The repeat contest was the "ABLE" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letterS "A", "B", "L", and "E", in any order somewhere within it. Once again, no one was ABLE to come up with such a word this week so we'll run it again next time with $3.00 awaiting the eventual winner.
Ed's $6.00 winnings are donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $228.55 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
