Session Notes - September 2, 2007 Session

The Northwest Club will continue to meet at the Highlands Community Clubhouse through September 16th.

This session marked the fifth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!

The tournament rules division was joined by 4 players who played 18 games in which we scored 7,010 points for a 389.44 point-per-game average. Of the 29 recorded bingos we played, three were phonies that went unchallenged.

Our recreational division included three players this week with Dee Keys, Elinor Horner and Isabel Keranen getting together for some leisurely games. This group reported one bingo (see "Bingos" below) this week (although I saw at least one more - EXCISES - on their board at one point).

Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured one repeat and two regular contests this week.

The repeat contest was the Not Your us"UAL" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the triplet U-A-L consecutively in some order within it. $2.25 awaited a winner. Richard Spence came up with FAULTED for 22 pts, but Judy Carlock trotted out FLAUNTER for 62 pts and the win.

The first regular contest was the Labor Day Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to some of the many ways Americans choose to celebrate Labor Day. Ed Saunders had the only entry in this contest with "Weather permitting on Labor Day, Uncle John always took the kids out on the BAY in the speedboat." 29 pts Ed zips off through the waves with his $3.00 in hand.

The second was the Suffixes Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that ends with one of the suffixes ED, ER, IC, ING, or AL. Judy Carlock had FLAUNTER for 62, Richard Spence played ACQUIRED for 72, but Ed Saunders wins it with UNEROTIC for 83 and the $3.00 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.75 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $30.74 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (September 9, 2007) shall feature the following contests:
Happy Birthday!!!!! Contest - Marina Love celebrates her mmmmpppphhhth birthday on September 10th. In honor of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either "M" or "L". (e.g. MARINAS, LORGNONS, MIDIRON, LOGJAMS, MOJARRAS, LINEARLY, MELODICA, LAOGAIS, etc.) .
Playing Hooky Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains at least two hook letters and makes at least three new words on the play.
