Session Notes - December 2, 2007 Session
This session marked the seventeenth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
We'd like to thank Monique Kornell for this week's goodies. Grapes, cheese & crackers, carrots, chocolate covered almonds, and a wonderful carrot cake (the last remaining piece of which is sitting next to me as I type this) filled the goodie table this session.
Our recreational division had two players this week. Margaret Miller joined us for the first time and Elinor Horner came by to give her some competition. Margaret also hung around for a game with Carol Knouse, one of our tournament division players, after Elinor left.
The tournament rules division was joined by 5 players who played 30 games in which we scored 11,540 points for a 384.6667 point-per-game average. Of the 42 recorded bingos we played, only one was a phoney that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 468 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 373 points by both Carol Knouse & Bob Knouse
- High Loss - 415 points by Carol Knouse (Opponent at 418)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 1.8000 bingos per game

- Weekly Anagram Challenge Richard Spence gives us our challenge again this week. Richard played the bingo SANTERO, one of FOUR seven-letter bingos on that rack. See how many of the three anagrams you can come up with. (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first regular contest was the It's All About "ME" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "ME" somewhere within it. Monique Kornell played HAME for 18, Richard Spence came up with NAMERS for 30, and Ed Saunders totaled 64 points for his winning play of SURNAMES.
The second was the It's All About "U" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "U" somewhere within it. All five players submitted a bingo play for this contest with three of them garnering over 100 points. Richard Spence played SURGING for 70, Bob Knouse grew a SEQUOIA for 72, Carol Knouse played SQUIRTER for 101, Monique Kornell topped that with ENQUIRES for 102, and Ed Saunders acquired the prize money with his 107 point play of ACQUIRER.
Ed picks up $8.19 for the club kitty with his two wins and his share of the 100+Point Play Progressive Jackpot.
The $2.05 100+Point Play Progressive Jackpot will be split between Carol Knouse (SQUIRTER), Monique Kornell (ENQUIRES for 102) and Ed Saunders (ACQUIRER for 107) with Ed picking up the odd penny by virtue of having the higher score.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $160.38 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (December 9, 2007) shall feature the following contests:
• "IC" A Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring
play of a word that contains the couplet "IC" in that order somewhere
within it. (e.g. ICEBLINK, ICTERUS, RICTUSES, MELODICA, KINETICS, FLICKERY,
TRICLADS, VICARATE, UMBILICI, PICACHO, EPIZOIC, QUIXOTIC, REJOICED, PASHALIC,
etc.).
• Call The "MP"s Contest - A quarter
of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest
scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "MP" somewhere
within it. (e.g. AMPLEXUS, BENEMPT, TYMPANIC, COMPOTE, GAZUMPS, GLIMPSED,
MUGWUMPS, CAMPOREE, PROMPTLY, WAMPUMS, JUMPSUIT, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.92
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $10.84 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $2.80 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
