The May 11th Session Was Canceled Due To Mother's Day Commitments
Session Notes - May 4, 2008 Session
This session marked the thirty-fifth of NSA Club #565 (Northwest)'s 2007-2008 season!
The goodies table included crackers and cheese, nuts, raisins, and chips today. Thanks to all who provided snacks for the group.
The tournament rules division was joined by 2 players who played 8 games in which we scored 2,924 points for a 365.5 point-per-game average. Of the 11 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for the tournament session include:
- High Game - 496 points by Ed Saunders
- Low Win - 351 points by Janis Clem
- High Loss - 348 points by Ed Saunders (Opponent at 351)
- Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.0000 bingos per game

- Weekly Anagram Challenge Janis Clem and Ed Saunders give us our challenges this week. Between the two of them, only two bingos were played that had anagrams, and each of those bingos had only one anagram. With a rack of BILORST, Janis played the bingo BRISTOL. Ed combined his rack of ADGINRS with an available "W" on the board to play the bingo SWARDING. Each of those two bingos has one anagram. Can you come up with them? (Answers in "Bingos" section below.)
We featured two regular contests this week.
The first was the War Of The Roses Contest for the highest scoring play
of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of somewhere within
it, a flower or flowering plant. No one came up with a winner this week,
so we'll plant that $1.50 seed again and see if anything blooms next time.
The second was the Here, Fishy, Fishy! Contest for the highest scoring play
of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, a
fish or other underwater creature. Janis Clem put the icing on this contest's
cake by hooking the "C" in ICING on the front end of HUB to form
CHUB for 21 pts. Janis hauls in $1.50 for this
play.
Ed Saunders rode his 101 point play of AZOTISES to the $4.28 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot.
Ed's $4.28 winnings will be donated back to the club kitty.
No one cashed in on any of the other Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $307.15 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.
The next session (May 18, 2008) shall feature the following contests:

ASTILBE, MAGNOLIA, ORCHIDS, VERBENA, SALVIAS, OPUNTIAS, CLEMATIS, DAHLIAS,
ROSEwood, MAYBUSH, HAWKWEED, BLUEBELL, etc.)
• And The Winner Takes A Bowwow Contest - On
May 8, 1877, the first Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was held. In honor
of this occasion, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player
who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or
incorporates the name of within it, a breed or type of dog. (e.g. LAPDOGS,
BASENJI, SAMOYED, HYAENAS, AARDWOLF, JACKALS, BLUETICK, REDBONE, MONGREL,
salCHOW, PUPation, SHEPHERD, TERRIER, etc.).
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $2.41
plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who
scores a Triple-Triple
play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - A sixteenth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more
points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $3.53 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores
565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $0.37 plus
a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays
a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
