Session Notes - January 31, 2008 Session

This session marked the thirteenth week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

Since this season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

We welcomed Jeannette Kaufman and Vic Kaye to the Thursday club for one of their infrequent visits (it's been a few years since they ventured over from the east side).

We were joined by 5 tournament division players who played 14 games. Of the 15 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phoneys that went unchallenged.

No recreational players were present and no games were played in the rec division this week. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was The Electric Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains either the letters "AC" or the letters "DC" (AC/DC) in any order somewhere within it. Ironically, Ed Saunders wins the $3.75 "Electric" Contest with a 51 point play of CAMS (a "mechanical" part in an engine). Ed's $3.75 winnings are donated back to the club kitty.

The second regular contest was the "EAU" What A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "E","A", and "U", in any order, somewhere within it. Sticking to the tried and true, Mickey Matz played EAU for 12 points. Vic Kaye, however, added an embellishment. Playing EAUX for 24 points, Vic picks up the $3.75 prize.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.93 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $70.63 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (February 7, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
The "I"s Have It Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains two or more "I"s somewhere within it (e.g. RATICIDE, ASCIDIUM, IDIOCIES, CONIINES, INSIPID, OIDIOID, BIELDING, LIXIVIUM, MIXIXES, etc.).
The "NO"s Have It Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "NO", in that order, somewhere within it. (e.g. INOSITOL, ANOMALY, EUPNOEA, CASSINOS, NANOWATT, NOWHERES, MADRONO, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $3.36 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.68 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $11.00 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $8.95 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
