Session Notes - March 20, 2008 Session

This session marked the nineteenth week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

Since this season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 2 tournament division players who played 8 games in which we scored 2,683 points for a 335.375 points per game average. Of the 9 recorded bingos we played, none was a phoney that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was The Mar. Madness Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letters "M", "A", and "R", in any order, somewhere within it. There were two valid entries for this contest. Pat Madea played ARMING for 30 points, but Ed Saunders found a bingo with ARMLIKE to sore 83 points and pick up $4.50 for the club kitty.

The second regular contest was the "TH" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "TH", in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders had the only entry for this contest with an 18 point play of DEATH to claim the $2.25 prize.

Ed's $6.75 winnings go back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $118.41 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (March 27, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• Happy, Happy Birthday Contest - Richard Spence reaches the grand, old age of fourteen on March 31st. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that begins with either of the letters "R" and "S" (e.g. RHAMNOSE, SMARAGDS, RENDZINA, SAMOYEDS, ROSTRATE, SASTRUGI, RIVERINE, SQUAMAE, etc.).
• "Y" Not Have A Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Y" somewhere within it. (e.g. YARMULKE, DILATORY, GREYMAIL, IDYLLIC, YTTERBIA, POLLYWOG, FISHEYES, YERKING, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.96 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $0.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $0.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $11.55 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
