Session Notes - April 10, 2008 Session

This session marked the twenty-second week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

Since this season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

In the Tournament session, we were joined by 3 tournament division players who played 12 games in which we scored 4,051 points for a 337.58 points per game average. Of the 14 recorded bingos we played, one was a phoney that went unchallenged.

There were no recreational games played this week. Click here for a roster of Recreational Players

Some numbers and whatnot for this tournament session include:

Some interesting bingos:

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the I Talk To The Trees Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, any tree. Ed Saunders reached into the realm of the obscure to win this contest, playing the bingo ABALONE which just happens to contain the word AL (an East Indian tree) for 64 pts as the only entry.

The second regular contest was the "IC" A Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "IC", in that order, somewhere within it. Ed Saunders made an authoritative statement in this contest, playing DICTA for 32 pts and the win. There were no other entries.

Ed's $4.50 winnings go back to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.56 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $133.58 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (April 17, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
Take Me For A Ride In Your Car Contest - On April 17, 1964, the Ford Motor Company unveiled the Ford Mustang at the New York World's Fair. In honor of this event, a quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, any car or land-based motor vehicle. (e.g. MUSTANG, IMPALAS, RAMBLER, SEQUOIA, GNASHING, CHEVIES, CENTURY, VOYAGER, HORIZON, FORDONE, HORNETS, HUMVEES, WOODIES, etc.).
Feathered Friends Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that is the name of, or incorporates the name of within it, a bird. (e.g. CURLEWS, SEAROBIN, WHIMBREL, PHOENIX, VERDINS, ORTOLANS, AVOCETS, LANNERET, THROSTLE, DUNLINS, WIDGEONS, DOTTEREL, etc.)
Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $7.64 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.23 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $0.56 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $13.23 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
