Session Notes - January 3, 2008 Session

This session marked the ninth week of NSA Club #565's 2007-2008 season!

Since this season will be our first full season as a two-tiered club with both a Recreational and a separate Tournament Rules Division. There will be some tweaking done as the Recreational Division develops.

We were joined by 2 tournament division players who played 4 games. Of the 7 recorded bingos we played, none were phoneys that went unchallenged.

We featured two regular contests this week

The first regular contest was the I'm Flying! Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that pertains to flight or to air in general. Ed Saunders came straight to the point with AIR, but it was only worth 11 points. Mickey Matz picks up the $2.25 prize with his 79 point play of ELEVATE.

The second regular contest was the "Q" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that contains the letter "Q" somewhere within it. "Qualm" was the play of the day. Mickey Matz and Pat Madea both played QUALM for 32 points. but Ed Saunders had no qualms at all about following Pat's play by hooking QUALM with BYTE forming QUALMY/BYTE for 38 points and the $2.25 prize.

Ed's $2.25 winnings go to the club kitty.

No one cashed in on any of the Progressive Jackpots this week and each shall have $0.37 added to it. As of this session we have paid out $49.73 in prizes this season. Click here for a complete list of prizes awarded during the 2007-2008 season.

The next session (January 10, 2008) shall feature the following contests:
• The "UN" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word that contains the couplet "UN" in that order somewhere within it (e.g. UNGUENT, MUNTJAKS, YOUNKER, SEAMOUNT, NUNATAKS, AVIFAUNA, VODOUNS, UNCIFORM, PICAYUNE, etc.).
• The "ABLE" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest scoring play of a word containing the letters "A", "B", "L", and "E" in any order somewhere within it. (e.g. BLOVIATE, ARBELAST, LABIATED, EDUCABLE, ABLEGATE, BEADLES, LAMBASTE, BARNACLE, ALBUMEN, EMBLAZON, GAMBOLED, etc.)
•Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.37 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
•100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $5.59 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
•Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - $8.01 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
•9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - $5.96 plus a sixteenth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
