This was the 2nd session of the 2005 - 2006 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by seven players who played 17 games in which we scored 12,469 points for a 733.5 point-per-game average. Of the 43 recorded bingos we played, only one was a phony that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 447 points by Ed Saunders
Low Win - 329 points by Monique Kornell
High Loss - 398 points by Lewis Saul (Opponent at 416)
Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 2.333 bingos per game
Left Holding a Q and Z - In her game against Naurlene Canterman, Monique Kornell notes that she was able to Q-Stick Naurlene. This was for naught, however, as Monique was left holding an unplayable Z in her rack.
Some interesting bingos:
- ASTILBE \n. An Asian perennial (played by Ed Saunders)
- CREWELS \n pl. Woolen yarns (played by Naurlene Canterman)
- ELEGITS \n pl. Types of judicial writs (played by Ed Saunders)
- GRADINE \n. One of a series of steps (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- OERSTED \n. A unit of magnetic intensity (played by Ed Saunders)
- STHENIA \n. Excessive energy (played by Lewis Saul)
The first contest of the session was for High Game, which Ed Saunders took with a 477 point win. The second contest was the "OUT Contest" for the highest scoring play beginning with OUT. Ed also took this with a 59 point play of OUTLINES. Ed takes home $9.50
None of the four progressive jackpot prizes was taken, and $1.31 shall be added to each. Finally, we the "Twice Around the Alphabet Bingo Contest" saw four players score a total of 9 points, and Naurlene Canterman is in 1st place. For complete standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $23.10 in prizes for the 2005-2006 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (1 December) shall feature the following contests:
- Low Win Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player with the lowest scoring winning game.
- High-Non Bingo Play - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player with the highest scoring play of a word that is not a bingo. To qualify for this contest you must note the tiles played and the point value of the play. In the case of a tie, the prize shall be awarded to the player whose play consists of a greater number of tiles (e.g., if XI and QOPH are played for the same point value, QOPH shall be the winner)
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $1.31 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
- 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.31 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
