This was the 5th session of the 2005 - 2006 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 8 players who played 21 games in which we scored 15,661 points for a 745.8 point-per-game average. Of the 55 recorded bingos we played, 4 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 480 points by Ed Saunders
Low Win - 340 points by Ed Saunders
High Loss - 417 points by Joshua Kassel(Opponent at 463)
Bingo King - Lewis Saul for averaging 2.000 bingos per game
eSSleSSneSS - In an game between Judith Whitcomb and Joshua Kassel, not a single "S" tile was played until the bag was empty. Judith's out play was ESS, which scored a paltry 11 points but was still the best play on the board.
Come From Behind - Josh Kassel notes that in his game aganist Ed Saunders, he was 135 points behind at turn 7. Despite having to exchange tiles after that, he was able to make a comeback. He still lost the game, but by a much more respectable spread of 417-463.
Some interesting bingos:
- FUSTIER \adj. Mustier (played by Ed Saunders)
- GANNETS \n pl. Large seabirds (played by Lewis Saul)
- INOSITE \n. An alcohol found in plant and animal tissue: variant of INOSITOL (played by Karen Lundeen)
- POTHERS \v. Troubles (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- RONIONS \n pl. Mangy animals or people (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- SERENATA \n. A dramatic vocal composition (played by Ed Saunders)
- SOLARIA \n pl. Rooms exposed to the sun (played by Judith Whitcomb)
The first contest of the session was the High Loss contest for the highest losing score. Judith Whitcomb turned in a losing score of 416 points but was bested (which is probably the wrong word to use) by Joshua Kassel's losing score of 417 (to his opponent's 463). Secondly, we played a "High 4" contest for the highest scorign play using 4 tiles. Naurlene Canterman turned in CANE for 26; Ed saunders played QAID for 49, but Lewis Saul picked up the prize for a 78 point play of BERM. Both Josh and Lewis take home $4.75 prizes.
None of the four progressive jackpot prizes was taken this session, and $1.31 shall be added to each. Finally, the "Twice Around the Alphabet Bingo Contest" saw three players score a total of 3 points, and Naurlene Canterman remains in 1st place, with Ed Saunders running 2nd. For complete standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $59.44 in prizes for the 2005-2006 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
