This was the 3rd session of the 2005 - 2006 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 5 players who played 14 games in which we scored 10,347 points for a 739.1 point-per-game average. Of the 29 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 445 points by Naurlene Canterman
Low Win - 343 points by Judith Whitcomb
High Loss - 397 points by Robert Whitcomb (Opponent at 434)
Bingo King - Bob Whitcomb for averaging 1.4 bingos per game
Caffeine Alert - Monique Kornell notes, "My waitress admitted that she wasn't sure if she gave me regular coffee or the Decaf I had ordered. If there was a mixup that might have been a contributing factor to my performance that evening at club. I certainly felt alert."
DANCES with Bingos - Naurlene had an interesting bingo night, playing INCASED and its anagram CANDIES. She also added UNCASED for a ternion (group of three) of "DANCES" stem bingos.
Some interesting bingos:
- BEANERY \n. A cheap restaurant (played by Judith Whitcomb)
- THORIAS \n pl. Oxides of thorium (played by Robert Whitcomb)
The first contest of the session was for Low Win, which Judith Whitcomb took with a 343 point win to her opponent's score of 339. The second contest was the "High Non-Bingo Play" for the highest scoring play that was not a bingo. We had three notible entries: ZORIS for 68 (played by Naurlene Canterman), SHADE for 48 points (played by Judith Whitcomb). But it was Monique Kornell's 90 point play of PRIZED that took the prize. Judith and Monique take home $3.25.
None of the four progressive jackpot prizes was taken, and $0.93 shall be added to each. Finally, the "Twice Around the Alphabet Bingo Contest" saw only one player score points, and Naurlene Canterman remains in 1st place. For complete standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $29.60 in prizes for the 2005-2006 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (8 December) shall feature the following contests:
- Double Indemnity Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who plays the highest scoring play of a word with a repeating letter (e.g., SALOONS, TITTERS, AARDVARK, etc.).
- High Out Play Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player with the highest scoring final (out) play of the game.
