This was the 22nd session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 7 players, who played a total of 23 games in which we scored 17,059 points for a 741.6 point-per-game average. Of the 54 recorded bingos we played, not a single phony went unchallenged -- a first in quite some time.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 575 points by Jason Sommer
Low Win - 332 points by Karen Lundeen
High Loss - 402 points by Karen Lundeen
Bingo King - Jason Sommer for averaging 1.857 bingos per game
Some interesting bingos:
- AGISTED \v. Fed and took care of for a fee, as livestock (played by Jason Sommer)
- LACTEAL \n. A lymphatic vessel (played by Jason Sommer)
- LATEENS \n pl. Sailing vessels (played by Ed Saunders)
- SCIATICS \n pl. Nerves, veins, or arteries situated near the hip (played by Monique Kornell)
- SENARII \n pl. Greek or Latin verses consisting of six metrical feet, plural of SENARIUS (played by Joshua Kassel)
- THENARS \n pl. Palms of the hand (played by Jeremiah Ramirez)
Thi session featured the "P.T. Barnum Contest" as April 7 marked the 114th anniversary of the death of circus great P.T. Barnum. He was incorrectly credited with the quote "There's a sucker born every minute," a phony quote attributed to him but actually uttered by his competitor (click here for the story). As is such we ran this contest for the highest scoring phony word either successfully played or successfully challenged off the board. Jeremiah Ramirez challenged a 104 point phony of QUOTIANT* off the board. Ed Saunders played COZYING, hooking the G off RADIATE to form the phony GRADIATE* -- also for 104 points. As is such, Ed and Jeremiah will split this $6.25 prize. Naurlene Canterman took the second contest: the "3-Pete Contest" for the highest scoring play using three of the same letter. Her 59 point bingo TEENAGE won her $6.25.
This session featured the letter R in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest in which all bingos starting with an "R" scored a point. Six players turned in bingos starting with R, and Nathan Benedict remains in 1st place, with Ed Saunders running second.Click here for Alphabet Bingo standings and rules!
Two of the four progressive jackpots were taken. Ed's 104-point COZYING wins hinm the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot, which was up to $1.68. Jason Sommer won the Club 565 Progressive Jackpot by playing TWO games of 565 points or above. He played a 565 and a 575 game this session and wins $8.98 as a result. The other 2 progressive jackpots shall each have $1.68 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $521.90 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (14 April) shall feature the following contests:
- "%$@*!!" Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play that contains a word that is considered offensive or vulgar (e.g., ABO, SHIT, FUCKERS, etc.). To qualify, you must record the offensive/vulgar word you played, note the play's point value, and give your own colorful definition of the word.
- "Blackjack Scrabble" Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the highest scoring play made one turn before or one turn after a play in which you score 21 points. To qualify for this contest you must record the word you played that scored 21 points as well as the word and play's point value one turn before or after your 21 point play.
Alphabet Bingo Contest - The Alphabet Bingo Letter for this session is S. Each bingo beginning with S scores one point (click here for standings and rules)
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $5.61 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
