We were joined by a 6 players, who played a total of 19 games in which we scored 13,915 points for a 732.4 point-per-game average. Of the 47 recorded bingos we played, 5 were phonies that went unchallenged.

High Loss - 404 points by Rex Kremer (Opponent at 418)

This session featured two contests honoring the 4th of July. First was a prize for the highest scoring play made using any 4 tiles. The entries were:
HOOF for 55 by Josh Kassel
CLEF for 51 by Ed Saunders
QuOTH for 45 by Monique Kornell
EAUX for 42 by Nathan Benedict
The second was for the "best" play of a word with a 4th of July theme. As noted in the contest rules, this was a completely subjective contest that was judged on an anonymous basis. In order to illustrate the nonbiased way in which such contests are judged, I am including the Instant Message session between me and our impartial juudge, who happened to be Morgan Christian, in which a winner was selected:
Josh [10:27 AM]: hey dork!
Morgan [10:28 AM]: sup
Josh [10:28 AM]: yo... need you to judge sumptin fer me
Morgan [10:28 AM]: shoot
Josh [10:28 AM]: Scrabble contest
Josh [10:28 AM]: The Contest:
- 4th of July Contest #2 - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the "best" play of a word with a 4th of July theme (e.g., HOLIDAY, FIREWORK, SPARKLER, PARTY, etc.). To qualify for this contest, you must record the word you played used in a 4th of July-themed sentence as well as the point value of the play. Entries shall be judged on an anonymous basis by a random and patriotic person your humble director finds.
Josh [10:28 AM]: The Entries:
-- My friend's Uncle Sam oufit was zany, but mine was ZANIEST. (84 points)
-- Steve is not invited to my 4th of July party because he OVERDOES it on the bar. (68 points)
-- The sparkler lit up with a FIZ on the fourth. (30 points)
-- The TODDLERS watched in ill-concealed excitement as the fireworks lit up their first 4th of July evening. (61 points)
Josh [10:28 AM]: which of the 4 is a winn-ah?
Morgan [10:29 AM]: ok...
Morgan [10:29 AM]: one sec...
Josh [10:30 AM]: ::playing Jeopardy theme::
Morgan [10:30 AM]: the rules is misleading..
Morgan [10:30 AM]: am I looking at usage in the sentence over the actually 'relation' of the word?
Morgan [10:31 AM]: or both
Josh [10:31 AM]: you are judging which is the "best"
Josh [10:31 AM]: completely subjective
Morgan [10:31 AM]: with that.... <drum roll>
Morgan [10:31 AM]: I'm gonna have to roll with toddlers
Morgan [10:32 AM]: fiz is more of a '4th of july word'
Morgan [10:32 AM]: but the toddlers sentence is the mo bettah
Josh [10:32 AM]: if that is your judgement, then so be it
Ed and Josh both take home $4.50 prizes.
None of the four progressive jackpots was won, and each shall have $1.12 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $701.79 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
