This was the 46th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 5 players, who played a total of 14 games in which we scored 10,532 points for a 752.3 point-per-game average. Of the 38 recorded bingos we played, 6 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 537 points by Lewis Saul
Low Win - 336 points by Karen Lundeen
High Loss - 409 points by Naurlene Canterman (Opponent at 449)
Bingo King - Lewis Saul for averaging 2.333 bingos per game
Some interesting bingos:
- EXORABLE \adj. Persuadable (played by Lewis Saul)
- OPERANDS \n pl. Quantities on which a mathematical operation is performed (played by Ed Saunders)
Lewis Saul picked up both nightly contests. The first for the closest win was determined in a 384-375 outcome, a difference of only 9 points. The second contest -- the "Happy Birthday Monique Kornell" contest for the highest scoring play beginning with M or K -- Lewis took with a 78 point phony of MASTINGS*, which beat out Karen Lundeen's 63 point entry of MOTIVATOR* and Monique Kornell's 40 point entry of KORE. Lewis takes home $6.50 for winning the contests.
Karen Lundeen picked up the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot by turning in a 9 letter (phony) bingo of MOTIVATOR*. As this has been won last week, Karen takes home $.093, and the same amount shall be added to the other three progressive jackpots as well. The "10 Useful Letters" contest saw two players score points. We now have seven players on the board, with Joshua Kassel and Ed Saunders tied for first place. For standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $920.69 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (06 October) shall feature the following contests:
- "Present Progressive" Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who makes the highest scoring play of a verb in the present progressive (-ING) tense (e.g., TASTING, RUNNING, HEATING, etc.)
- "Close Loss" Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player whose losing score is closest to his or her opponent's winning score. Ties do not count.
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $0.93 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
- 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $2.05 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
