This was the 38th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by a 9 players, who played a total of 24 games in which we scored 17,306 points for a 721.1 point-per-game average. Of the 54 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 461 points by Nathan Benedict
Low Win - 331 points by Michael Rhodes
High Loss - 395 points by Rex Kremer (Opponent at 451)
Bingo King - Rex Kremer for averaging 2 bingos per game
No Vowels Does not a Good Game Make - Josh Kassel notes that in his dismal game against Rex Kremer, he only had 11 vowels the entire game. He was only able to play one word the entire game that had more than one vowel: LORE. That word contained the only "E" tile he saw all game. Needless to say, Rex stomped him 440-250.
Some interesting bingos:
- APHELION \n. The point in a planetary orbit farthest from the sun (played by Nathan Benedict)
- DAVENING \v. Uttering Jewish prayers (played by Lewis Saul)
- MARLITES \n pl. Earthy deposits containing lime, clay, and sand (played by Monique Kornell)
This session featured two contests. The first was the "Bingo Followup" contest for the highest scoring play made the turn after playing a bingo. We had six notible entries, with Ed Saunders winning it:
Ed Saunders OXIDANTS (68) / CRAFTY (57)
Michael Rhodes DEVOURS (65) / QUEUED (52)
Nathan Benedict DEAFNESS (86) / ZOMBI (46)
Naurlene Canterman UNLOADS (69) / BRIMS (39)
Monique Kornell SOARING (89) / WIVES (39)
Rex Kremer BAITERS (76) / FROG (24)
The second contest of the evening was the "Before or After 20" contest for the highest scoring play made a turn before or a turn after one's opponent made a play wiorth 20 points. Lewis Saul took this one, and the entries were:
Lewis Saul played FURZE (81) before opponent played FARE for 20
Ed Saunders played OXIDANTS (68) before opponent played NOM for 20
Naurlene Canterman played ZONAL (60) after opponent played PEG for 20
Nathan Benedict played KAYO (38) after opponent played HOGG for 20
Monique Kornell played LACY (22) after opponent played ANA for 20
Rex Kremer played CEL (22) after opponent played TEL for 20

Ed and Lewis take home $6.75 prizes.
None of the four progressive jackpots were won, and each shall each have $1.68 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $776.94 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (4 August) shall feature the following contests:
- "Get That Garbage Off The Board" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who successfully challenges his or her opponent's highest-scoring attempted play of a phony word. To qualify for this contest, you must note the phony your opponent attempted to play and what would have been the point value of the play (e.g., "I challenged MILAGRO*, which would have been worth 83 points")
- High Loss Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player who turns in the highest losing score.
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $4.49 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
