This was the 16th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 11 players, who played a total of 27 games in which we scored 19,005 points for a 703.8 point-per-game average. Of the 59 recorded bingos we played, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged. This session saw Michael Rhodes playing with his new NSA rating of 971, a rating he earned as the result of placing 1st in his first-ever tournament in Phoenix last weekend. True to form, he placed first this session as well!
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 459 points by Robert Whitcomb
Low Win - 255 points by Tess Lind
High Loss - 390 points by Judith Whitcomb
Bingo Queen - Judith Whitcomb for averaging 2 bingos per game
Bingo Coincidence - Jeremiah Ramirez and Ed Saunders both played the same word as their first bingo of the night in their respective sessions: STHENIA (\n. Excessive energy).
Some interesting bingos:
- ALIUNDE \adv.
From a source extrinsic to the matter at hand
(played by Judith Whitcomb)
- ARCSINE \n. The inverse function to the sine
(played by Judith Whitcomb)
- SCORIAE \n pl. Refuses of smelted metal or ore
(played by Ed Saunders)
Joshua Kassel won both of the session's contests. The "Out Play" contest for the highest-scoring final play of the game was snagged as the result of bingoing out on a TWS with an 89-pointer of OVERRIDE. The second contest was the "High Five" contest for the highest scoring play made using any five tiles. Playing through the previously-played word IN, Josh put down the five tiles ADQRS to form QINDARS with the Q on a DLS square and the word on a DWS, scoring 54 points. Josh takes home $15.50 for the night.
This session also featured the letter L in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest in which all bingos starting with an "L" scored a point. 5 bingos beginning with L were played, and Nathan Benedict is in the lead, but Monique Kornell is just one point behind him in second.Click here for Alphabet Bingo standings and rules!
None of the four progressive jackpots was taken this session, and each shall each have $2.06 shall be added to it. As of this session, we have payed out $357.84 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (4 March) shall feature the following contests:
- "K's okay " Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected
shall be awarded to the highest-scoring play made using the K tile. To qualify for this contest, you must play the actual K; designating the blank as a K does not count.
- "It's NO Contest " Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected
shall be awarded to the highest-scoring play that contains the tiles N and O played together in any position (e.g., NORITES, ACINOUS, INFERNO, etc.).
