This was the 7th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 10 players who played a total of 24 games in which we scored 17,382 points for a 724.25 point-per-game average. Of the 46 recorded bingos we played, four were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 523 points by Bob Yarmchuk
Low Win - 343 points by Karen Lundeen
High Loss - 389 points by Monique Kornell
Bingo King - Joshua Kassel for averaging 1.8 bingos per game
Some interesting bingos:
- DILATORY \adj. Tending to delay (played by Bob Yarmchuk)
- RENTIER \n. One who receives a fixed income (played by Ed
Saunders)
- TERRITS \n pl. Metal rings on a harness (played by Ed Saunders)
The first of our contests for the session was the Holiday Contest for the
best play of a word that is holiday themed and used in a sentence. We had
several entries:
BAPTISTS for 79 by Bob Yarmchuk (Jesus was one of the earliest
BAPTISTS)
EMOTIVE for 63 by Daniel Forrest (People were EMOTIVE during
the pageant rehersal)
LORDLESS for 79 by Daniel Forrest (Christmas may have been
started by LORDLESS pagans)
PRALINES for 74 by Joshua Kassel (We presented a gift of
peanut, cashew, and almond PRALINES)
RESTAGE for 77 by Daniel Forrest (They had to RESTAGE the
Christmas pageant)
SNUGGLE for 82 by Monique Kornell (They would snuggle in
front of the yule log)
Karen Lundeen and Naurlene Canterman agreed to select a winner from the list
of entries, which they received on an anonymous basis. After much debate,
they selected BAPTISTS as the winner. The second contest
of the evening was the "PRO CONtest" for the highest play beginning
with PRO or CON. Bob Yarmchuk won this as well with a 74 point play of PROTESTS.
Bob takes home $14.00
This session also featured the letter C in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest
in which all bingos starting with an "C" scored a point. only one
person scored in this contest, and we have eight players all with one point.

Bob Yarmchuk and Ed Saunders both won the 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot by turning in plays of 100 or more points. Ed Saunders put down TIPPERS for 104. Bob's play of ACIDIZED* was a phony that netted him 116 points. Ed and Bob will split the $5.42 prize. The other three progressive jackpots shall each have $1.87 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $155.13 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (30 December) shall feature the following contests:
- New Year Contest #1- A quarter of dues collected shall be
awarded to the player who makes the most creative play of a word that has
the New Year as its theme (e.g., TOASTS, LANGSYNE, REVELER, etc.). In order
to qualify for this contest, you must write the word and a brief description
of why it is a "New Year themed." If you can justify a word as being
New year themed, we'll accept it as an entry, so be creative!
- New Year Contest #2- A quarter of dues collected shall be
awarded to the player who makes the highest-scoring play that contains the
tiles N-E-W or Y-E-A-R played in any order (e.g., WEANING,
ALLERGY, etc.). To qualify for this, you must
play all the N-E-W or Y-E-A-R tiles. Extending a previously-played N-E-W or
Y-E-A-R word does not count
