This was the 45th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 6 players, who played a total of 17 games in which we scored 12,252 points for a 720.7 point-per-game average. Of the 36 recorded bingos we played, 2 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 598 points by Ed Saunders
Low Win - 281 points by Jeremiah Ramirez
High Loss - 392 points by Naurlene Canterman (Opponent at 400)
Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 1.833 bingos per game
Some interesting bingos:
- ACARINE \n. A type of arachnid - variant of ACARID (played by Karen Lundeen)
- MONERANS \n pl. Csellular organism that do not have a distinct nucleus (played by Ed Saunders)
- QUINELLAS \n pl. Types of bets in horse racing (played by Monique Kornell)
- VUGGIEST \adj. Most abounding in vugs (small cavities in rocks or lodes) (played by Naurlene Canterman)
Jeremiah Ramirez won both this session's contests (yay Jeremiah!). We revisited the "Blackjack Scrabble" contest for the highest scoring play following a play worth 21 points. Jeremiah scored 21 points for EM and the following play was PUBES for 35 points, which outdid Naurlene Canterman's entry of 21 points for TURD, then 34 points for TIVY (side note: the entries seem to follow a somewhat visceral theme). Also, Jeremiah took the Low Win contest for turning in a winning score of 281 points. Jeremiah takes home $8.00 for winning the contests.
Three of the four progressive jackpots were snagged this session. Ed Saunders finally cashed in on the Club 565 Progressive Jackpot for a game of 565 points or more. His impressive 598 point game was his highest of this season and won him a hefty $29.72 prize. Ed topped it off by also winning the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot with a 131 point play of MONERANS and takes home another $3.73. Naurlene Canterman emptied out her rack and won $2.80 for the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot by putting down RETARDING. The remaining progressive jackpot shall have $1.12 added to it. Finally, the "10 Useful Letters" contest saw two players score points. We now have six players on the board, with Joshua Kassel in first. For standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $913.26 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (29 September) shall feature the following contests:
- "Close Win" Contest - ~A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to the player whose winning score is closest to his or her opponent's losing score. Ties are not wins and therefore do not count.
- "Happy Birthday Monique" Contest - ~Our beloved Monique celebrates a birthday (her 29th) on September 27. Wish her a happy birthday and collect ~a quarter of dues if you play the highest scoring word beginning with M or K. In the case of a tie, an impartial observer (Josh who is still sampling cheese curds in Wisconsin) shall flip a coin to determine the winner.
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - An eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple play.
- 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - $1.12 plus an eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points in a single play
- Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - An eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single game.
- 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot* - An eighth of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who plays a bingo of 9 or more letters in length.
- 10 Useful Letters Contest - This session's "Useful Letters" are A and J. Every bingo you play beginning with A or J scores you points. For standings and rules, click here.
* = Jackpot prizes cannot be combined.
