This was the 23rd session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 9 players, who played a total of 25 games in which we scored 18,026 points for a 721 point-per-game average. Of the 53 recorded bingos we played, only 2 were phonies that went unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 483 points by Nathan Benedict
Low Win - 317 points by Karen Lundeen
High Loss - 410 points by Monique Kornell
Bingo King - Nathan Benedict for averaging 1.833 bingos per game
Long Words - We saw two 10 letter plays this evening, which is a slightly unusual occurance. Lewis Sauls put down ARACHNOID, which was back-hooked to form ARACHNOIDS. In another game, Monique Kornell played EQUALISE, which was hooked twice to make EQUALISER and the EQUALISERS..
Blanks and S's - Karen Lundeen and Josh Kassel both had the opportunity to burn through a lo of blanks and S's in single plays. Karen, with a rack of ??EGOSS played GrOSSEr. Josh, with a rack of ?EPRSSS, played off an O to put down a phony: OPRESSeS*.
Papal? Or Narcissistic? - Nathan Benedict was able to play a bingo of his own last name: BENEDICT
Some interesting bingos:
- COVERLET \n. A bed covering (played by Monique Kornell)
- ESERINE \n. A toxic alkaloid (played by Nathan Benedict)
- MILTERS \n pl. Male fish at breeding time (played by Robert Whitcomb)
- ORDINES \n pl. Calendars of religious directions -- plural of ORDO (played by Ed Saunders)

This session featured the "%$@*!!" Contest for the highest scoring play of a word that is considered offensive or vulgar in nature. Although we expected a lot of entries in this contest, there were only a few. The winner was selected by a pal I work with, who chose Jason Sommer's entry of his 59 point play QUEAN (short for COTQUEAN, a whore). The other contest was "Blackjack Scrabble" for the highest scoring play made one turn before or one turn after a play in that scored 21 points. Nathan benedict won this one by playing BLISSED for 91 points followed by AMMO for 21. Both Jason and nathan take home $6.25 for the session.
This session featured the letter S in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest in which all bingos starting with an "S" scored a point. Seven players turned in bingos starting with R, and Nathan Benedict remains in 1st place, with Ed Saunders running second.Click here for Alphabet Bingo standings and rules!
One of the four progressive jackpots was taken. Lewis Saul won the 9+ Bingo PriogressiveJackpot for a 9-letter word: ARACHNOID and takes home $3.36. The other 3 progressive jackpots shall each have $1.68 added to them. As of this session, we have payed out $537.76 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
