This was the 48th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
With the Yom Kippur holiday and an out of state tournament, we were joined by only three players who, despite the intimate setting, played 6 games in which we scored 4,276 points for a 712.7 point-per-game average. Of the 13 recorded bingos we played, only one was a phony that went remained unchallenged.
Some numbers and whatnot for this session include:
High Game - 450 points by Ed Saunders
Low Win - 353 points by Lewis Saul
High Loss - 388 points by Lewis Saul (Opponent at 396)
Bingo King - Ed Saunders for averaging 1.250 bingos per game
The first of the evening's contest was the Yom Kippur contest, awarded to the player who made the highest scoring play beginning with Y or K. Lewis Saul took this with a 74 point Triple Word Score of KERATINS. Lewis also took the other contest of the session: the "NO GO Contest" for the highest scoring play beginning with NO or ending with GO with a low scoring 13 pointer of NOMOI, that nonetheless won the contest. Lewis takes home $3.50.
Ed Saunders picked up the 9+ Bingo Jackpot by bingoing out through an existing S and D with REASSURED for 61 points. Josh Kassel picked up the Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot by playing SEETHING through an existing N for 158 points. Both Josh and Ed take home $2.61, and $0.56 shall be added to the other two progressive jackpots as well. The "10 Useful Letters" contest had no players score points, and Ed Saunders remains in 1st place. For standings and rules, click here. As of this session, we have payed out $941.51 in prizes for the 2004-2005 season. Click here for a complete list of winners.
The next session (20 October) shall feature the following contests:
