This was the lucky 13th session of the 2004 - 2005 Season of National Scrabble Association Club #565!
We were joined by 13 players who played a total of 36 games in which we scored 26,428 points for a 734.1 point-per-game average. Of the 88 recorded bingos we played, 5 were phonies that went unchallenged.

We rolled over the "-MAN or -MEN Contest" for the highest scoring word of 4 or more letters ending in MAN or MEN from last week as there were no entries from it. Nathan Benedict was able to take it home with the 18-point play of CABMEN. The High Loss prize goes to Jeremiah Ramirez for a 389-412 loss (See? There IS a silver lining). Also the "What's On the Menu" contest for the highet scoring play of a food that is on the Denny's menu went to Ed Saunders for DESSERT for 65 points. Nathan takes home $7.75 for his prize; Jeremiah and Ed both win $9.25.
This session also featured the letter I in the ongoing Alphabet Bingo Contest in which all bingos starting with an "I" scored a point. Four people scored points, and Nathan Benedict is in the lead and Monique Kornell is in second.Click here for Alphabet Bingo standings and rules!
Three of the four progressive jackpots was taken this session. Nathan Benedict and Judith Whitcomb both made plays of 100 or more points and will split the $4.48 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot. Nathan's play of WORRITS scored 107 points. Judith's play PIQUETS netted her an even 100. Nathan also picked up the Club #565 Progressive Jackpot for a game of 565 or more points. His 577 point game wins him $2.43. Nathan also takes home another $2.43 for winning the 9+ Bingo Progressive Jackpot for a bingo of 9 or more letters: ENTRANCED. he Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot remains untouched, and $2.43 shall be added to it. The next session (10 February) shall feature the following contests:
- "Compound Play" Contest - A quarter of dues collected shall be awarded to
the player who makes the highest-scoring play of a word that can be broken into two or more words of 3 or more letters each (e.g. HOGTIED, BOWFINS, BEDRAIL, etc..
- "Trading Pays Off " Contest - A quarter of dues
collected shall be awarded to the highest-scoring play made the turn after exchanging tiles. To qualify, you must list the tiles you exchanged, the tiles you kept, and the play and score you made on the next turn.
Alphabet Bingo Contest - The Alphabet Bingo Letter for this
session is J. Each bingo beginning with J scores one point (click
here for standings and rules)
- Triple-Triple Progressive Jackpot* - $15.16 plus an eighth
of the session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores a Triple-Triple
play.
- 100+ Play Progressive Jackpot* - An eighth of the
session's dues will be awarded to any player who scores 100 or more points
in a single play
- Club 565 Progressive Jackpot - An eighth of the session's
dues will be awarded to any player who scores 565 or more points in a single
game.
