+ Session NotesThis was our eleventh session of the season. We were joined by 16 players who played 41 games. We scored a total of 29,729 points for a 725.1 points-per-game average. We played 82 bingos this session. Of those bingos, 4 were phonies that went unchallenged. We welcomed a new player, Daniel Byrne, who read about us in The Tucson Weekly and decided to drop in for some games. We also saw Jake Jacob's return from Thailand. Welcome! Since this was the last session for the month of January, club rankings for the month are out as well. Since we played five sessions in January, only players with 15 or more games will be ranked. Nathan Benedict was the top player of the session, with a perfect 5-0 scorecard. He also wears the Bingo King crown by turning in 11 bingos in 5 games. Finally, he played the high game of the session, a 588-pointer -- just shy of winning what is becoming a somewhat sizable jackpot for games of 600 or more points. For a second week in a row, Monique Kornell captured one of the prizes for the evening: the High Five contest for the highest-scoring play using five tiles. She beat out Judith Whitcomb's 52 point play of BOWER and Lewis Saul's 59 point HYMEN with a 72 point play of QUINS. The other contest for the evening was for the Low Win. Eric Kasper captured it with a 299 win in a very close game against his opponent. Both Eric and Monique take home prizes of $10.75. Using the mention of a close call as a segue into a point that should be
made; don't be afraid to recount your games if your final scores are
extremely close. This session we had 4 games that were won or lost by a
spread of 5 or less: Two folks scored points in The Double Bingo contest, which featured the tiles K and P. With only two more sessions for this contest, Ed Saunders remains in 1st place, but not by much; click here for standings. Finally, none of the four progressive jackpots were picked up, and $2.82 will be added to each. Next Session (05 February) will feature the following contests: + Bingos by PlayerBelow are the bingos played during the 29 January 2004 session at National Scrabble Association Club #565.
