+ Session NotesThis was our ninth session of the season. We were joined by 13 players who played 29 games. We scored a total of 20,811 points for a 717.6 points-per-game average. We played 60 bingos this session. Of those bingos, 3 were phonies that went unchallenged. We also welcomed a new player, Simon Harford, a winter visitor in from London. Welcome! Ed Saunders was the session's top player as well as bingo king (10 bingos in 5 games). The evening's contests were the "high and DRY" contest for the highest-scoring word containing the tiles D-R-Y. Monique Kornell picked this one up with an 82 point bingo of GYRATED. The Boobie Prize contest for the losing game score that came the closest to his or her opponent's final score but still lost the game went to Linda Bredel for a final score of 315-232 against Lewis Saul, a difference of only 8 points. Monique and Linda both pick up $8.50 for the evening. The best find of the evening is brought to us by Robert Whitcomb, who played an 8-letter non-bingo play. His word AQUILINE was played through an existing A and U to score him a respectable 54 points. On the subject of long words, Ed Saunders nailed the 9+ Bingo Jackpot with a 9-letter bingo of ENGRAVERS. This play scored him 72 points and earns him the $9.00 jackpot. None of the other jackpots were won, and $2.25 will be added to each. Finally, seven folks scored points in The Double Bingo contest, which featured the letters I and R. Josh Kassel picked up a bonus point for playing bingos that started with each of these letters, but Ed Saunders still holds a 3 point lead; click here for standings.
