| AVG POINTS | AVG BINGOS | CLUB RATING Session Notes: This was our 24thrd session of the season.
We had 14 players who competed in 29
games in which a total of 21,797 points were scored. 71 bingos were
played this session. Of those bingos, only two were phonies that went
unchallenged.
Congrats to Gary Wagman for being the
top player of the evening and turning in a perfect 3-0 +334 scorecard. In
the process of winning all his games for the evening, he also set a new club
record by picking up 76 club rating points! Our May Day contest for the highest-scoring
word containing the letters M, A , and Y was won by
Bob Whitcomb with a 30 point play of MEALY, a nice find considering
he played only the M, A, and Y tiles through an existing E and L. Rex Kremer
won the High Loss contest, proving that there is a silver lining to every
cloud, especially when that cloud is a 401 point game that is beat out by
an opponent's score of 435. Both Bob and Rex pick up $7 in prize money. Nobody
played a Triple-Triple or a bingo of more than 9 letters, and those jackpots
are now at $10.50 and $3.50, respectively. Linda Bredel suggested a new contest.
Of course, Linda's sense of timing was (as usual) perfect. We have
26 sessions left this season. With 26 letters in the alphabet, we are going
to start "The Alphabet Bingo Contest." Here's how it works. Starting with
the 8 May session, the alphabet starts with the letter A. For each bingo you
play that begins with the letter A, you score a point. The next session will
feature the letter B. For each bingo you play that begins
with the letter B you score one point. Get the drift?
Each session, one dollar will be taken out of the dues collected and put
into a pot. At the end of the contest, the person with the most points wins
the $26 Alphabet Bingo Jackpot. Next Session (8 May) will feature the
following contests:
- Low Win (a quarter of dues collected) - "Looooong Word" Contest - A prize will be awarded to the player who creates the longest word by extending a previously-played word. For example if the word ORDAIN has been played, you might add a front extension of PRE to turn it into PREORDAIN. Further, that word can be made longer by adding MENT to the back to form PREORDAINMENT. Going beyond that, it can be pluralized to form a ridiculously long PREORDAINMENTS. In the case of multiple words with the same number of letters, the winner shall be determined by the total point value of the tiles -- e.g., PREORDAINMENTS totals up to 19 points. (a quarter of dues collected). - Triple-Triple Jackpot ($3.50 plus an eighth of dues collected) - 9+ Bingo Jackpot ($10.50 plus an eighth of dues collected) - Alphabet Bingo - The Alphabet Bingo letter for this session is "A." For each bingo beginning with the letter A, you will score one point.
