Session Notes:

We welcomed a new player this week. Marian Powell noticed our listing in the paper. Being a kitchen player, she decided to drop in and check out the world of competitive Scrabble. Welcome!

This was our 18th session of the season. 14 players competed in 30 games in which a total of 22,482 points were scored. Additionally, 66 bingos were played this session. Of those bingos, eight were phonies that went unchallenged.

Nathan Benedict was the top player of the night, turning in a perfect 7-0 +1222 scorecard. He also claimed the evening's title of Bingo King by playing fifteen bingos over the course of his games. Last week Lewis Saul set the record by gaining the most rating points in a single session (+71). This week Josh broke it by picking up 72 rating points in a session.

The jackpots are back down to zero! Nathan Benedict was able to play not one, but TWO Triple-Triple plays! His first, TROAKING, scored an impressive 158 points. His second of the night, EGLOMISE, netted him 140 points. Nathan picks up $7.50 for the Triple-Triple Jackpot. The 9+ Bingo Jackpot was wiped out too -- again by Nathan but also by Josh. Nathan played a 9-leter bingo of OVERLADEN. Josh played a 9-letter bingo of STRAINING as well. Unfortunately, this jackpot was claimed last week, so Josh and Nathan get to split a paltry $3.25 prize. They will arm wrestle to determine to see who gets the extra penny.

More on Nathan. He wins the "Know Your Competition" prize by playing ED (as in ED Saunders) for 37 points. The Low Win prize goes to Linda Bredel for a 346-point win. Each player picks up $6.50 for their efforts. Congratulations!

Next session (20 March 2003) will feature prizes for:
- High Win (a quarter of dues collected)
- "St. Patrick's Day" Contest - A prize will be awarded to the player who plays the highest-scoring word that is associated with the St. Patrick's Day holiday. The word can relate to Ireland (e.g., BLARNEY stone, EMERALD Isle, etc.), or one of the holiday's traditions (e.g., GREEN, LEPRECHAUN, BOOZE, CORNED BEEF and CABBAGE, TAM, PARADE, HANGOVER, etc.). Be creative! (a quarter of dues collected).
- Triple-Triple plays (an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos  (an eighth of dues collected)
