Session Notes:

Sixteen players attended this Thursday's session, playing a bit later than usual until the bewitching hour of about 11:PM. We played a total of 39 games in which 28,469 points were scored. 81 bingos were played this session. Of those bingos, eight were phonies that went unchallenged.

Nathan Benedict took top honors for the night, turning in a perfect 7-0 +1353 scorecard and playing 17 bingos. He was also able to capture the prize for the high game of the evening with an impressive 554 pointer. The contest for the highest-played Z word was won by Josh Kassel with his AMAZING play (as in "he played the word AMAZING") for 97 points.

Rex Kremer nailed the 9+ Bingo Jackpot with a 77 point play of TIMELINES. Rex takes home $8 for his efforts, and the 9+ Bingo Jackpot is now reset to zero. The Triple-Triple Jackpot went unclaimed yet another week! It continues to grow in size and is now at $31. As a reminder, each jackpot receives an eigth of the dues collected during a session until someone cashes in.

Ed Saunders suggested we start maintaining player rankings for the season. This is a great idea, so I started posting them last week with the intention of updating them weekly. Unfortunately, I realize this is going to require a bit more time than I have to spare. I will be posting player rankings, but I will update them monthly after the last session of the month rather than weekly. By the end of the season, players must have played a minimum of 50 games in order to be ranked. As it is early in the season, this number is at 30 but will be increased to 40 and then 50 as the season progresses. These rankings are below.

Next session (6 February 2003) will feature prizes for:
- Highest game (a quarter of dues collected)
- Triple-Triple plays ($31.00 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos  (an eighth of dues collected)
- "Q don't need a U" - A prize will be awarded to the player who plays the highest-scoring word that contains the Q tile but does not contain a U (e.g., QAT, QOPH, TRANQ, SHEQEL, etc.). To win this prize, you must play the actual Q tile (designating a blank as a Q does not count) and not add onto a previously-played "Q don't need a U" word.
(a quarter of dues collected).
