Session Notes:

Fifteen players attended this session. We were pleased to welcome a new player named simply Cairn. Cairn has played at Club #303 and dropped in with Jake Jacobs last night for a few games. She is the first person I have known who has only one name; I think it is cool.

Linda Bredel came out on top this session with a perfect 4-0 +524 score card. She was also bingo queen, turning in seven bingos in four games. Also turning in a perfect 3-0 +84 score card was Gary Wagman, who picked up 124 rating points in the process. Way to go!

Ed Saunders picked up the prize for high game by turning in a 465 pointer. The contest for the lowest scoring bingo was a tie between Jennifer Takacs for her play of UNHOLIER and John Jensen for his play of TAILORED. Both bingos scored only 58 points despite both being 8-letter plays.

And on the subject of ties, this session saw the unusual event of two tie games. Karen Lundeen and Naurlene Canterman tied with 342 points each, and Richard Fields and Brent Aronson tied with 306 points each. Although neither game was recounted, in a tournament both should have been.  Scoring errors are extremely commo, so typically, if a game's outcome is a tie or within a few points, it is a good idea to recount. Tournaments have been won and lost as a result.

We have a winner of the 9+ Bingo jackpot! Gary Wagman was able to pass off a phony bingo of desirings. Phony or not, though, it went unchallenged, and Gary walks away with a $14.50 prize. Congratulations! The 9+ Bingo jackpot is now reset to zero and will accrue an eighth of the dues collected each session until someone else captures it. Nobody captured a Triple-Triple play, and $3.50 was added to the pot for doing so.

Next session (23 January) will feature prizes for:
- Highest game (a quarter of dues collected)
- Triple-Triple plays ($23.00 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos  (an eighth of dues collected)
- MLK Play. To commemorate Martin Luther King Day, a prize will be awarded to the player who plays the highest-scoring word that contains the letters M, L, and K (e.g., MILK, KILIM, MICKLE, SMOKILY, etc.). You do not have to play all three MLK tiles (e.g., adding USK to MOLL to form MOLLUSK counts). Adding onto a previously played "MLK" word (e.g., adding an S to MILKER to form MILKERS) also counts.
(a quarter of dues collected).
