Session Notes:

Thirteen players attended this first session of 2003.

Joining us for the first time was Jennifer Takacs. Jennifer stumbled across us online and decided to try out competitive Scrabble, which she did very well with. Welcome Jennifer!

Ushering in the new year, Yusupha Jow captures the NEW YEAR prize (the highest-scoring play containing either NEW or YEAR) with an impressive 92-point play of STEWING. Naurlene Canterman placed first, turning in a perfect 5-0 +588 score card. She also captured the prize for high game by playing a 506-pointer. Congratulations to both.

Notable play of the night goes to Ed Saunders, who played through LI to form OXALIS, playing the X on a TLS and the word on a DWS for a cool score of 58 points. Nobody played a Triple-Triple, and the cash prize for doing so now stands at $17.25. Also, nobody played a bingo of nine or more letters, and the pot for that acheivement now stands at $8.75.

Next session (9 January) will feature prizes for:
- Highest game (a quarter of dues collected)
- Triple-Triple plays ($17.25 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos  ($8.75 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- Single Tile play. A prize will be awarded to the player who scores the most amount of points by playing a single tile (e.g., adding an S to SQUEEZE to form SQUEEZES for 26 points, playing the X two ways on a TLS for 50 points, etc.). Make sure to write down the tile you play, what you added it to, and how many points you scored as a result
(a quarter of dues collected).
