Session Notes:
Thirteen
players were in attendance. We played a total of 32 games in which 23,294
points were scored. 69 bingos were played this session. Of those bingos,
five were phonies that went unchallenged. We were also happy to be visited
by a familiar face. Lois Nielsen, who used to play at IHOP (Club #303), was
in town and dropped in for a few games.
Bright lights
punctuated this session. KOLD Channel 13 visited us with reporter
Todd Grisham and camera crew popping in to do a story on us. They filmed
some games and interviewed Bob Whitcomb, Josh Kassel, Nathan Benedict, and
Lois Nielsen. The segment on our club should be airing on Tuesday, February
11 on both the 6:00pm and 10:00pm editions of the news.
Nathan Benedict
takes the prize for high game with a 509 pointer (Close on his heels were
Monique Kornell with a 507 point game and Bob Whitcomb with a 502 pointer).
The contest for the "Q Don't Need a U" play was John Jensen, playing QAT
for 32 points. Nobody was able to play a Triple-Triple, and the pot for doing
so is now at $34. Additionally, nobody nailed a bingo of 9 or more letters,
and that pot is now at $3..
Next
session (13 February 2003) will feature prizes for:
- Low Win (a quarter of dues
collected)
- Triple-Triple plays ($34.00 plus
an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos ($3 plus an eighth
of dues collected)
- "Line up the Consonants" - A
prize will be awarded to the player who plays the highest-scoring word
that contains four or more consonants in a row (e.g., BYRL, APHTHA,
HYMNS, CRWTHS, SYNCH, etc.). Ys
can count as consonants, and blanks designated as a consonant count as well.
(a quarter of dues collected).
