Session Notes:

In preparation for this weekend's tournament, we saw 17 players in attendance - our largest crowd ever.

We bid welcome to three new Tucson folks.  Patricia Scott, John Jensen, and Richard Fields joined us for the first time.  John comes to us with a 1226 NSA rating, which we hope he can improve during this weekend's tournament. Patricia and Richard (the latter of whom will also be competing in the tournament) had never played tournament-style Scrabble but took to it like fish to water. Welcome all three! We hope to see more of you.

Also joining us for the first time were Keith Smith, Caesar Jaramillo, and Jim Hughes -- all in for the tournament from Austin, Texas. The three had just arrived after a long drive and chose Denny's as a convenient place to stop for a bite to eat. Noting the club doing its thing, they were happy to sit in for a couple of games, and we were happy to have them.

Naurlene Canterman was top dog last night, turning in a perfect 5-0 +346 score card. Lewis Saul and Judith Whitcomb share title of bingo king and queen, each turning in seven bingos for the evening.  Ed Saunders teaches us that one does not always need bingos to win games by scoring an impressive 215 points in four back-to-back plays, starting with JUMPS (65 points) followed by CRANKER (51 points) followed by XU (51 points) and ending up with WOES (48 points). And on low bingos, Monique Kornell averages only 0.5 bingos-per-game, but she plays a brutally strategic game. Congratulations to her for breaking through the 1300 barrier to bring her club rating to 1302.

The high game prize was captured by Josh Kassel for a 483-pointer. Yusupha Jow grabbed the prize for the highest-scoring word using a V with an 86-point play of TROVERS
Nobody captured a Triple-Triple play or played a bingo of nine or more letters, and the pot for both stands at $5.75, respectively.

Next session (12 December) will feature prizes for:
- Highest game (a quarter of dues collected)
- Triple-Triple plays ($5.75 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- 9+ Bingos  ($5.75 plus an eighth of dues collected)
- High NO play.  A prize will be given for the highest-scoring word that begins or ends with NO (e.g., NOCKS, KIMONO, NOHOW, OREGANO, etc.). To qualify for this  prize, you must actually play both the N and O tiles. Hooking onto a previously-played word (e.g., adding O to PAISAN to form PAISANO or adding N to ONCE to form NONCE) does not count.
